Cargo Handling Operator
- On-site research to produce a comprehensive, LSC funded Business
and Training Review designed to identify future strategy to improve
business performance.
- Development and delivery of a structured programme of Supervisory
Skills training to coincide with the introduction of new systems
of working and revised pay policies. Topics covered included Discipline
and Grievance Handling, Planning and Problem Solving, Communication
Skills, Delegation, Assertiveness and Negotiating Skills, and
included specially designed work-based exercises to reinforce
the learning.
- A follow-up programme has covered further management skills
such as Mentoring, Coaching and Training and Leadership, Motivation
and Teambuilding and incorporated personal action plans and follow-up
feedback sessions in order to evaluate how new skills had been
put into practice at work.

Learning and Skills Council
- Research into training issues within the Ports sector in the
local area, interviewing representatives from fourteen businesses
and reporting on organisational background, workforce analysis,
recruitment issues and existing training and development activities,
all as part of a national government initiative regarding workforce
development.
- Ongoing involvement through attendance at national meetings
on behalf of the Learning and Skills Council, during the process
of setting up a national training pilot aimed at improving the
take-up of qualifications within the sector, involving liaison
at local level with interested employers and training providers.
